The United_Bottle Goup is working on the concept of Secondary Use of PET as a Design Strategy. Instead of heading to the garbage dump, the used plastic bottle can be employed as a construction module, particularly in areas where no PET recycling systems exist.

Ein aktuelles Beispiel ist Hamburgs Innenstadt die bis 2020-2025 mit der HafenCity Hamburg auf einer Fläche von 157 Hektar um 40 Prozent erweitert wird. Der Masterplan von Kees Christiaanse aus dem Jahr 1999 sieht eine kleinteilige Parzellenstruktur mit hoher Dichte, das Prinzip der Nutzungsmischung und die Schaffung öffentlicher Räume vor. Leuchtturmprojekte wie Herzog & de Meurons monumentale Elbphilharmonie erfüllen dabei auch die Funktion des Branding, das die Areale in den mentalen Karten von Öffentlichkeit und potenziellen Nutzern neu verorten soll.

One current example is Hamburg where, over an area of 157 hectares, the HafenCity Hamburg will increase the size of the inner city by 40 per cent up until 2020-2025. The 1999 master plan by Kees Christiaanse envisages a high-density, small-plot structure grounded in mixed-use principles and the creation of public space. Lighthouse projects such as Herzog & de Meuron’s monumental Elbphilharmonie serve as branding to position the site in the imagination of potential residents and users.
