Global Exclusion and Diversity: Reading Migration and Gender in Art Schools<\/strong><\/p>\n

Friday 24 April 2015, 6 pm \u2013 8.15 pm, followed by a drink\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The public twin-lecture hosted by Art.School.Differences interrogates diversity, gender and migration in the field of art and art education\u00a0from a critical feminist and postcolonial perspective. The two lecturers will offer\u00a0specific\u00a0tools\u00a0that enable us to read and critically reflect on differences. Their suggestions are\u00a0highly relevant to\u00a0higher education – at ZHdK and other teaching and research institutions – but also\u00a0to\u00a0a number of other institutional fields.<\/p>\n

\nGetting into focus for the 21st Century: Critical Diversity Literacy as an essential lens
\n<\/strong>“The ‘Critical Diversity Literacy’ framework can be regarded as an informed analytical orientation that enables a person to ‘read’ prevailing social relations as one would a text, recognizing the ways in which possibilities are being opened up or closed down for those differently positioned within the unfolding dynamics of specific social context. The\u00a0presentation will outline ten criteria for ‘Critical Diversity Literacy’.”<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>“Based on several empirial examples, this talk will try to describe not ony how women tend to find it more difficult to operate as artists than their male colleagues, but also resources and tools women, consciously or tno, use to transgress such gendered limiting processes in order to become and to remain artists over time, and sometimes, even to become famous worldwide arists!”<\/p>\n
