His compositions are internationally acclaimed and have been performed at several renowned festivals and theatres. In 2009 he was appointed a professor of composition at the Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik Carl Maria von WeberDresden, and, in the same year, elected as a member of the Akademie der K\u00fcnste Berlin (director of the music department in 2012). He has been a member of the S\u00e4chsische Akademie der K\u00fcnste since 2010 and a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts since 2017. Tsangaris was artist-in-residence at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) for the 2012-13 academic year; he has, since October 2012, been the artistic director (from2016) for the Munich Biennale for Music Theatre (together with Daniel Ott). In the academic year, 2017\/18 Tsangaris is Visiting Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Tsangaris founded the Internationale Institut f\u00fcr Kunstermittlung (www.iike.de). He has done research in the field of scenic anthropology.
