I wonder why. When I do research on complex systems, there is a lot of fascinating data that I can&#8217;t reproduce (I forget the initial values and parameters) when I do\u00a0computer-based\u00a0simulation experiments. Science is about reproducibility, and if you do it 10 million times, you want the same event to happen 9999 times; if it happens once in 10,000 times, that&#8217;s not science, that&#8217;s art. I consider that once-in-a-lifetime interest to be art.\u00a0This talk will\u00a0introduce\u00a0a series of works\u00a0created since 2005 with\u00a0a range of collaborators including the\u00a0composer Keiichiro Shibuya, sound artist evala, and photographer\u00a0Kenshuu Shintsubo, as well as\u00a0recent\u00a0works based on\u00a0a custom designed android called\u00a0Alter\u00a0in order to discuss\u00a0the meaning, possibility and challenges\u00a0of the intersection\u00a0between the\u00a0arts\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Takashi Ikegami\u00a0<\/strong>is Professor\u00a0in General Systems Science\u00a0in the\u00a0Graduate School of Arts and Sciences\u00a0at The University of Tokyo\u00a0and principle investigator of the Ikegami Lab.\u00a0He received his PhD in physics from The University of Tokyoand is internationally known for his contributions to the development of complex systems science and artificial life.\u00a0Some of his results have been published in\u00a0<em>Life in Motion<\/em>\u00a0(Seidosha, 2007) and\u00a0<em>Between Man and Machine<\/em>\u00a0(Kodansha, 2016). He has also been active 2005\u00a0in the arts\u00a0with works such as \u201cFilmachine\u201d (with Keiichiro Shibuya, YCAM, 2006), \u201cMind Time Machine\u201d (YCAM, 2010), \u201cLong Good bye\u201d (with Kenshu Shimpo, Japan Alps Festa, 2017), \u201cOffloaded Agency\u201d (Barbican, 2019), among many other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday, June 28th, 2022 | Kino Toni, ZHdK Even now, I am often asked\u00a0as a scientist&#8221;Why do you also do art projects?
