Half an Island is an artistic research project that investigates socio-urban segregation by analyzing structures of gated communities and material divisions. In such systems that rely on closure, we are looking into those aspects that evidence porosity, or the spaces and moments where hermetic organisms fail to be sealed.

Language
by
Yamu Wang, Peter Keller & Zoya Chadha
Languages are fragile constructs whose status is vulnerable to changing attitudes within the countries they exist. When a language gains or loses visibility in public spaces, the speakers of the language gain and lose access to the public sphere. Can a public art project use language to combat this trend? This project responds to this question by taking a playful approach through using a language game that requires cross-lingual problem-solving communication skills to resolve.
