It was here that Lehmann started taking film courses with Werner von Mutzenbecher in 1976. From 1976\/77 he went on an exchange year at the Cooper Union in New York, where he studied with Hans Haacke, Robert Breer and Douglas Davies. He also visited the St\u00e4delschule in Frankfurt as guest student in Peter Kubelka’s class from 1981-82. Andr\u00e9 Lehmann worked as a lecturer at the Basel Art School from 1987-2013.
