E-learning (English)

You are not alone…

You share the workshops with over 1,000 other users, so please observe the following points:

  • Personal items may only be stored in the workshops with the permission of the workshop supervisor. Any items left behind will be disposed of.
  • After working, tables must be cleared and the workshops cleaned. Workshop staff are not responsible for cleaning and tidying.
  • Tools may not be taken from the workshops without permission.
  • Defects in tools or machines must be reported to the workshop supervisor immediately, as they can pose a safety risk.
  • The workshop instructors rely on the correct and honest accounting of consumables in order to continue providing them.

In addition to the general safety rules of the Toni-Areal, special regulations apply in the Lehr workshops.

Substances of abuse

  • Alcohol, cannabis, and other drugs or impairing medications are prohibited in all workshops. Both the consumption and presence under the influence of such substances are not permitted.

Personal Protective Equipment

In general, appropriate clothing must be worn in the workshops.

  • Clothing: should be close-fitting, may get dirty, and should not impede work.
  • Shoes: closed-toe shoes with non-slip soles – especially no high heels, sandals, platform shoes, or flip-flops.
  • Accessories and jewelry: no scarves, necklaces, or rings.
  • Long hair: please tie back or pin it up.

In addition to these general regulations, specific protective measures are available for certain tasks and can be found in the respective workshops.

Fire extinguishers / fire blankets

When using the workshops, one should always be aware of the location of the nearest fire extinguishers and fire blankets.

Defibrillator

In case of emergencies, one should know the nearest location of a defibrillator.

First aid kit

Each workshop also has a first aid kit.

Emergency number

The emergency number for all emergencies and accidents in the Toni-Areal area is…

(043 446) 70 70

When you call this emergency number, the emergency services‘ response teams are coordinated by local staff. This is the only way to ensure that help arrives quickly where it is needed.

Emergency exits

Emergency exits must be accessible at all times.

Sprinkler

The sprinklers in the fire suppression system react to heat as well as mechanical damage. When a sprinkler is activated, 200 liters of water flow per minute!

  • Be careful not to perform any work that generates heat under the sprinklers.
  • When transporting tall or long objects, take care not to touch the sprinklers.
  • Do not install anything on the sprinklers or their pipes.

Smoke detector

Smoke detectors are triggered by smoke, steam, and dust particles in the air. The smoke detector alerts emergency services within minutes. False alarms are costly and must be avoided at all costs.

Therefore, always use available vacuum cleaners or extraction systems when performing dust-generating work. When working with steam, ensure that the work is not carried out directly below the smoke detector.

Hazardous substances

Hazardous substances must always be stored in the designated containers and safety cabinets.

  • Under no circumstances should chemicals be placed in drinking bottles!
  • All chemicals placed in bottles must be clearly and legibly labeled!

The teaching workshops may only be used during opening hours and with the necessary authorization. External persons and alumni are prohibited from using the workshops. It is forbidden to grant unauthorized persons access to the workshops. Violations will result in expulsion and exclusion from the workshops.

Activation

Access to the respective workshops is only granted after successful completion of Z-Tech courses. The following requirements are mandatory for passing a Z-Tech course:

  • Completed e-learning course with successfully passed review questions
  • 100% attendance and achievement of the predefined learning objectives in the Z-Tech course

Update badge

To avoid problems with access to the workshops, it is recommended to update the campus card every 2 weeks at the designated terminals.

In the training workshops, the campus card is used not only for access but also for a separate machine badge system. This system is organized independently of the access control system. While the access control system is managed by Facility Management, the workshop management is responsible for the machine badge system.

After successful completion of the Z-Tech course, machine access rights for the corresponding workshop are activated.

Use (during the day)

To use an activated card during regular opening hours, proceed as follows:

  1. Hold the card against the left card reader until the green light flashes.
  2. Within 10 seconds, insert the card (face down) into the right card reader.
  3. The card reader will briefly flash red – the device is ready for use.

Special case: Double badge (see opening hours)

For safety reasons, two people must always be present in the workshop when using machinery. In the absence of the workshop manager, particularly dangerous machines are managed via the double-badge system.

  1. Hold the first card against the left card reader until the green light flashes.
  2. Within 10 seconds, hold the second card against the left card reader until the green light flashes.
  3. Within 10 seconds, insert one of the two cards (face down) into the right card reader.

Since material procurement generally requires individual consultation and processing, material sales to individuals without Z-Tech are not possible.

The training workshops are for working on school projects and are not production workshops.

Culture of freely accessible material

To facilitate diverse creative processes, the workshops cultivate a culture of freely accessible materials. However, this does not mean that all materials are available at all times. For logistical reasons, it is not possible to keep all materials constantly in stock.

Therefore, it is important to clarify material requirements with the workshop supervisors in advance. Please also report any materials that are used up promptly so that the workshops can remain well-equipped.

MoniToni App

MoniToni is the payment system for material purchases and equipment use in the workshops. The (web) app is structured like an online shop and allows you to bill for materials and manage the finances of your projects and modules. To do this, log in to monitoni.zhdk.ch with your ZHdK email address and password. You can top up your balance in the app (TWINT, Postcard, PostFinance, Visa, and Mastercard). In addition to your personal account, each workshop-related module is visible as a module account in your shopping cart. With each material purchase/machine use, you determine which account is billed. You can easily add used materials by scanning the QR code or by searching for the item in the shop.

Detailed instructions for using the MoniToni can be found at

Price lists

You can now find the current price lists in the MoniToni app shop.
