{"id":454,"date":"2015-05-18T12:23:39","date_gmt":"2015-05-18T12:23:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.zhdk.ch\/zh4k\/?page_id=454"},"modified":"2015-05-18T12:47:01","modified_gmt":"2015-05-18T12:47:01","slug":"nachbarschaft-in-urban-spaces","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blog.zhdk.ch\/zh4k\/projektideen-der-studierenden\/nachbarschaft-in-urban-spaces\/","title":{"rendered":"Nachbarschaft in Urban Spaces"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>According to the German dictionary (Duden),\u00a0<em>Nachbarschaft<\/em>\u00a0includes all neighbours, their relations, as well as the immediate physical closeness to someone or something.\u00a0Exceptional\u00a0<em>Nachbarschaften<\/em>\u00a0like the container village, the Labitzke site in Zurich-Altstetten, or the holdout (\u201cnail house\u201d) in the Turbinenstrasse in Zurich West are only three examples of urban spaces that can be perceived as products of urban processes such as gentrification, inclusion\/exclusion, and interim use.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; What forces shaped these urban arrangements?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Why are they in conflict?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; How can we rethink\u00a0<em>Nachbarschaft<\/em>\u00a0in the context of these examples?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>With these questions, we wish to address the topic of globalized and constantly growing cities. Furthermore, we wish to call into question the colloquial definition of the German word\u00a0<em>Nachbarschaft<\/em>.\u00a0These social, spatial, and cultural arrangements are marked by the permanent negotiation of differences and similarities between people.
