Der Projekttitel \u00bbMetaphern der Stadt\u00ab kann in den klassischen Fragestellungen der Kulturtheorie verstanden werden\u00a0(Welche Bedeutungen hat Stadt als eine\u00a0Metapher? Welche Metaphern von Stadt gibt es in der Kunst, in der Stadtplanung, der Alltagskultur, in theoretischen Diskursen und der Politik?), er kann aber auch als Startpunkt f\u00fcr Exkursionen in der Kunst oder dem Design dienen und offen sein f\u00fcr dokumentarische Ans\u00e4tze oder Interventionen (Wie kann ich die Stadt und ihre Metaphern sichtbar machen? Wie kann ich in konkreten urbanen R\u00e4umen in \u00bbdie Stadt\u00ab oder \u00bbdas Urbane\u00ab eingreifen?).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Die Anziehungskraft von St\u00e4dten wird\u00a0normalerweise als Ergebnis eines \u00f6knomischen Wandels verstanden. Das schliesst nicht nur eine grosse Bandbreite and Menschen ein, die dicht zusammenleben, sondern auch, als dessen Resultat, eine Reihe von \u00f6kologischen, wirtschaftlichen oder sozialen Problemen. Es gibt aber einen weiteren Aspekt: St\u00e4dte kreieren Bilder und Geschichten, Symbole, Mythen und Metaphern. Schliesslich basiert die Anziehungskraft von St\u00e4dten zu einem grossen Teil auf\u00a0der Vielfalt ihrer Bedeutungen. Diese Vielfalt macht aus St\u00e4dten Orte\u00a0der Vorhut und kulturelle Wegweiser: In St\u00e4dten entstehen neue Formen des Arbeitens und (Zusammen-)Lebens, der Mobilit\u00e4t, des Wohnens, der Kultur und der Kunst. St\u00e4dte sind insofern Laboratorien und Schmelztiegel der Gesellschaft, ihrer \u00d6konomie, Politik und Kultur.<\/p>\n

Das Projekt \u00bbMetaphern der Stadt\u00ab verschreibt sich diesem kreativen Potenzial \u2013 ein Potenzial, das k\u00fcnstlerische Praxis, Lebens(um)welten bzw. -alltag und Theorie verbindet. Studenten von Z\u00fcrich, Hamburg und Hong Kong realisieren disziplins\u00fcbergreifende\u00a0Projekte, die auf Feldrecherchen in allen drei St\u00e4dten basieren.<\/p>\n

Die Work-In-Progress-Ausstellung im Connecting Space gibt einen Einblick in die Arbeiten und Themen dieses einj\u00e4hrigen Projekts. Die Ausstellung stellt jedem Studierenden einen Quadratmeter zur Verf\u00fcgung, um zu zeigen, was dabei bisher entstanden ist.<\/p>\n

Das Endresultat des Projekts wird in der Z\u00fcrcher Hochschule der K\u00fcnste zu sehen sein, sowie im Connecting Space in Hong Kong und in einer publizierten Form in \u00bbCommon \u2013 Journal f\u00fcr Kunst und \u00d6ffentlichkeit\u00ab, einem Schweizer Online-Magazin, im September 2015.<\/p>\n

\u00bbCity Metaphors\u00ab can be understood in the classic perspective of cultural studies (What meanings does city have as a metaphor? What city metaphors exist in the arts, in urban planning, in everyday culture, in theoretical discourses, in politics?), but it also can be taken as a starting point for art or design explorations, open to documentary or interventionist approaches (How can I make visible\/perceptible the city and its metaphors? How can I affect \u201cthe city\u201d, \u201cthe urban\u201d in concrete urban space?).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The attraction of cities is usually perceived as a result of economical development. This includes not only a wide variety of people living densely together, but also, as a result of that, a series of ecological, economical or social problems. But there is another important aspect: Cities create images and stories, symbols, myths and metaphors. To a large extent, their attraction is based on this multitude of meanings. It creates a character of vanguard and cultural orientation. In cities, new forms of work and life, of mobility and habitation, new cultures and fields of art arise. Therefore, city as a laboratory or city as a melting pot are appropriate metaphors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project \u201eCity Metaphors\u201c is dedicated to this creative potential that connects artistic practice, living environment and theoretical research. Students from Zurich, Hamburg and Hong Kong realize crossdisciplinary projects based on field trips and research in all the three cities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u201eWork-in-Progress Show\u201d at Connecting Space gives an insight at the works and topics of this one-year project. The exhibition presents on one square meter per student what has been collected, elaborated and created so far in Zurich, Hamburg, and Hong Kong.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The final results of the project will be shown at the Zurich University of the Arts and at Connecting Space Hong Kong, they will also be published in \u201eCommon \u2013 Journal for Arts and Public Sphere\u201d, a Switzerland-based online magazine, in September 2015.<\/strong><\/p>\n
