The city as a Landscape of Conflicts – Utopoly

Die historische und soziale Fabrik einer Stadt wird immer durch Konflikte verschiedener Interessen(gruppen) geformt. Utopoly ist ein Spiel, das einige solcher Konflikte reproduziert und sie für die Spieler erfahrbar macht. Es basiert auf einem Spiel von 1904, »The Landlord’s Game« von Elizabeth Magie, welches dafür gedacht war, Kritik am Kapitalismus zu üben, aber später zum Spiel Monopoly weiterentwickelt wurde. Indem wir einige neue Regeln einführen, möchten wir die Bedeutung einer Wiederaneigung von Stadt diskutieren und überdenken. Lasst die Spiele beginnen!

The historical and social fabric of a city is always shaped by conflicts between different interests. Utopoly is a game that reproduces some of these conflicts and lets the players experience them. It is based on The Landlord’s Game from 1904 of Elizabeth Magie, which was meant as a critique on capitalism, but later evolved into Monopoly. By adding a few rules we want to discuss and rethink the means of reclaiming the right to the city. Let’s play!
