reconquer spaces – gentrified spaces
In this particular work I visualize various experiences, wishes and demands of (public) spaces and make them virtually available by using Augmented Reality technology.
It is no coincidence, that I have chosen Zurich’s nightlife district 4 to be the location for this artwork. For years, it has been subject to a heteronormative gentrification, which resulted in the disappearance of many LGBTQ+ spaces and therefore spaces, that provided some kind of safety for our community and culture.
Born and raised in a non-urban environment and without any understanding of “public safe space”, it really concerns me to observe how (rainbow) capitalism in urban centres, once again sticks to its true intention of profit over queer liberation.
This artwork is my answer to these lost and crucial spaces, a way of reconquering those by combining art with technology.
