how to choose?

Last week after everything was wrapped up with my last project of the semester (coming soon I promise!) I went and looked at all the  diploma works from the ZHdK bachelor students. I have told myself for a long time I want to study Visual Communication (graphic design), but surprisingly, I was bored and even unimpressed by the projects they presented.

This comes as a shock. It twists and shakes my world up a bit. During this past semester in the Propädeutikum I have learned so much, but more importantly, have had SO MUCH fun experimenting with various materials. I am afraid that VisCom would be boring. That I would have to spend my day in front of the computer.

You see, I have found out a lot about myself recently: I like to play. I like to experiment. I like to get my hands dirty. I like the handcrafted side of things. I like DOING and MAKING and not just with a mouse and a screen…

Oh Dear.

I was intrigued by the projects the Style and Design students presented. I LOOOVED the Scientific Visualization presentations. And the most shocking thing of all: I an now open to the ideas of studying Game Design or Cast/Audiovisual Media.

Most of all, I don’t like how my neat, organized, boxed up future (i.e. graphic designer) has become a crazy plethora of possibilities.

I want to have the courage to explore and experiment and choose a crazy degree, but I also feel the need for a “safe” degree. I have after all, a degree in Music which I don’t use….

So I will keep ruminating and experimenting and will take some practical steps as well and research job possibilities for people who study Style and Design or Scientific Visualization.

To the Unknown.

I run bravely towards you.

xx
