DEUTSCH, NATÜRLICH UND NACKT? Die Lebensreform und ihre kolonialen Verflechtungen
Ausgehend von den persönlichen Erfahrungen der Autorin mit der deutschen FKK-Bewegung erkundet das Essay die diskursive Verbindung zwischen Kolonialismus, seiner Ideologie des Rassismus, und der Lebensreformbewegung, welche so tiefgreifend (deutsche) Gemeinschaftskonzepte, Körperideale und Beziehungen zwischen Mensch und Natur geprägt hat. Trotz der Zeitgleichheit mit dem deutschen Kolonialismus und der Überschneidung mit dessen Ideen und Protagonisten, sowie ihrem Einfluss auf den Nationalsozialismus, bleibt die coloniality der Lebensreform weitgehend ein blinder Fleck in der Forschung. Was würde eine Auseinandersetzung mit dieser Vergangenheit im Hinblick auf politische und ethische Konsequenzen für unsere Beschäftigung mit dem Erbe der Lebensreform in unserer Gegenwart bedeuten?

GERMAN, NATURAL AND NAKED? The Colonial Entanglements of the Life Reform
Taking the author’s personal experiences with the German nudist movement as a starting point, this essay explores the discursive link between colonialism, its ideology of racial hierarchies and the Life Reform Movement (Lebensreformbewegung), which so profoundly shaped (German) ideas of community formation, bodily ideals and human-nature relations. Despite its overlap of timing, protagonists and ideas with German colonialism, as well as its noted influence on National Socialism, the coloniality of the Life Reform remains an academic blind spot. What would an examination of this past entail, in terms of political and ethical consequences for our engagement with the Life Reform’s legacy in our present?
