What is an artist position in the society?
What can an artist do for their own hometown abroad?

The above questions become more important recently for a theater practitioner from Hong Kong but currently studying in ZHdK. „In Search of our Common-ground” is an attempt to answering the above questions, not just intellectually but also as an artistic practice.

Watching the news from Hong Kong day and night, I feel totally painful and shameful of myself being here, in Zurich, studying in an art institution. Every time when a stranger knew where I came from, I was asked about the situation there.

What does it mean to tell other one’s own suffering?
What does it mean to hear other’s suffering?

Hence an urge arises for me to start the project “In Search of our Common-ground”, in order to create connection between Hong Kong and the World, by telling the stories of Hong Kong, because as the end of the day, we are all revolter as Albert Camus had stated.

This is also a project of personal artistic search, in a format of manifesto, searching the function as a performance artist in the upheaving global context. The theatre piece will be devised, drawing from the personal experience of the artist himself, responding to the fact being a HongKonger in Europe especially during the upheaval political times. Different artist will be also invited to join the researching and creating process. With the shadow of the pandemic, a more creative collaborative way of working will also be experimented.
