Siu Hei CHUNG (Hong Kong, Switzerland)
Concept, Director, Dramaturg, Performer

Hi, I am Siu Hei, a theatre director from Hong Kong, and currently studying Master of Dramaturgie in the Zurich University of Arts (ZHdK). Before entering the theatre field, I studied Sociology in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. May be that is one of the reason why I always emphasised on the social function of my art work. After working as a freelancer in Hong Kong for around 6 years, I found my work unsatisfying. In my heart, I felt disconnected with my creations. I didn’t know what I would like to say through my work. Hence I left the city that I was born and grown up, and started my journey to re-connect myself in Europe.

The time I took the flight, I was not sure if I can arrive the airport because of the government measurement again st the demonstration. Then I spent two months dropping tears in my heart while watching the news from Hong Kong. My family, my friends and my root is far away from me right now, and I felt shameful of myself being so powerless in this side without helping anyone there.

When I firstly arrived, curious classmates will ask me about the situation there. I tried my best to explain to them. But later on, I am frustrated: Why should I share with them? Do they really care? Can my sharing ease the pain of the HongKongers? I stopped sharing.

After a long while of frustration, I suddenly received a calling, which was a tiny voice in my brain: Believe in yourself! Believe in the power of storytelling! No one can do what you can do, that’s the purpose of your life.

So, here I am, trying to share with you my journey, and also inviting you to join me to create the world that we all love to live in.
