With his artistic research project „The Feeling Machine“, film director Manuel Flurin Hendry investigates whether we could develop emotionally reactive robots using theories of emotion from film acting. The chatbot „Stanley“ has already answered this question in the affirmative. He thinks human actors are yesterday’s news and fantasises about the superior authenticity of machine-generated performances. In conversation with „Stanley“, the audience gains an insight into the bizarre world of artificial „intelligence“ and experiences first-hand how the omnipotence fantasies of (male) programmers find expression in language models such as ChatGPT.
