My colorful place

20151020_164848
This place is a part in my living district. It seems old and there are lots of reconstructions for the old buildings, but now they are painted as a new one with the colorful their faces. When I am free, I would like to go somewhere high and look down how our lively city is running. At this time, I can relax and look detailed on the flow of people and car.

For how it plays, I upload a short video on Vimeo:

  1. I was wondering whether there are any initiatives by tenants to mark their own flats and to become visible for others? In former East Germany – a socialist state where apparently everybody had to assimilate – tenants in such prefab buildings often painted the walls of their balconies individually in bright colors. Once Germany was reunified – as a capitalist state where presumably everybody has a right to express him/herself – and private real estate companies bought the houses, the tenants were no longer allowed to mark their flats as this would damage the clean look of the freshly renovated houses.

    1. Hong Kong is a capitalist country. It has 2 kinds of housing – Public Housing and Private Housing. For the Public Housing, the wall designs of buildings are owned by government. Every wall colors and designs are having different meanings as Winnie’s comment said. Although Private Housing has its right to design their wall, there still are initiatives by tenants based on the association of the tenants as Germany in a capitalist state.

    1. It is a nice description! 🙂 Every time people or visitors are just said Hong Kong is a wonderful lighting city, but like you to looks as the buildings. It quite surprises for me. In Hong Kong, there are lots of old private building are renewal by governments and now being painted as different colors. It really likes a “Lego-built” city as you said!

  2. I am delighted that you liked my description and that you felt inspired for your project idea 🙂 I am so curious to see this lego district in real life, also the outcome of your project.

    cheers,
