Real Life Acting for Virtual Worlds

ABSTRACT by Luis August Krawen

Making a feature film confronts us with a high degree of division of labour, organisation, precise planning and financial hurdles. The medium dictates how we work. Modern 3D animation, with its accessible means of production, has the potential to subvert these established production processes and enable actors to work for the screen in new ways.

With his project “Planet Magnon” (based on the novel of the same name by Leif Randt), video artist Luis August Krawen, together with the acting ensemble of the Münchner Kammerspiele, is testing whether this potential can be realised on the scale of an entire feature film. In his lecture, Krawen reports on his experiences with this working process and gives us a glimpse behind the scenes.
