A human is a mother, is a crying face, is a vulnerable body, is a fearless fighter, is a curious spectator, is a nurtured child, is a working robot, is a place for boundary disputes. Not every human counts as a person.
Historisch gewachsene Wertvorstellungen, vorherrschende Narrative, Körperpolitiken und Rechtsinstrumente bestimmen den Personenstatus und schaffen in der Abgrenzung davon Nicht-Personen. Die Kategorisierung bestimmt, welche Körper betrauert werden, wer die Monster in den Geschichten sind, die wir uns erzählen und wessen Erinnerungen und Erfahrungen lesbar werden. Welche Logiken halten diese Grenzen aufrecht? Wie können die Umrisse der Kategorie Person in Frage gestellt werden?
Die Ausstellung «The Person in Question» befasst sich mit der Konstruktion von Personen und den Grenzbereichen, in denen der Personenstatus brüchig wird. Konzipiert von Studierenden des Master Art Education Curatorial Studies aktiviert sie die Bestände der Bibliothek und verknüpft künstlerische Positionen, historische Dokumente und zeitgenössische Medien.
Mit Arbeiten von Antje Ehmann & Harun Farocki, Natascha Sadr Haghighian, Ann Kern, Jota Mombaça, Mikołaj Sobczak, Isaac Chong Wai und anderen.

Values received in history, hegemonic narratives, corporeal politics and juridical instruments define who will be endowed with the status of personhood; and at the same time, they create non-persons in the act of such delineation. The categorisation determines which bodies are mourned, who are the monsters in the stories we tell, and whose memories and experiences become legible. What logics upholds these boundaries? How can the outlines of the category of personhood be challenged?
The exhibition «The Person in Question» addresses the production of «persons», and the borderlines, where personhood as a category is in question. Curated by students of the Master Art Education Curatorial Studies, it activates the collection of the library and connects artistic positions, historical documents, and contem-
porary media.
