PATRIK SJÖBERG

Patrik Sjöberg (Sweden) is a lecturer in film studies at Karlstad University. His research is devoted to documentary film focusing on experimental and innovative narrative strategies. Patrik Sjöberg’s publications in English and Swedish cover compilation film, documentary and avant-garde, autobiography and film, documentary and memory and surveillance technology.


 

BELLA HONESS ROE

Bella Honess Roe (UK) is a lecturer in film studies at the Department of Dance, Film and Theater at the University of Surrey. She wrote her dissertation on animated documentary films at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 2009. Bella Honess Roe has years of practice in film production companies in Los Angeles and London and has led workshops as a script consultant. Recently, she also works for the DocHouse in London.

DAVID DUFRESNE

David Dufresne is a journalist, film maker and transmedia pioneer. FORT McMoney his current documentary online game, wich was produced by the National Filmboard of Canada has won multiple international prices. The New York Times called his work „a marriage of the film and the video game“. In 2010 Dufresne worked as author and co-director on PRISON VALLEY. This interactive web documentary was awarded the World Press Photo 2011 (Best interactive non-linear work). The French native lives in Montreal with his family and has worked as Artist in Residence at the Open Documentary Lab at the MIT in Boston.


 

JUDITH ASTON

Judith Aston is a lecturer in the field of ‚Filmmaking and Creative Media‘ at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol. In addition to practical experience as a ‚creative producer‘, she has an academic background in visual anthropology and interactive design with a dissertation on interactive documentary films. As a practitioner, she worked for BBC Interactive Television and Apple Computing. Judith Aston is co-founder and co-director of i-Docs, a web hub for interactive documentary films.

In her lecture, Judith Aston explored techniques of interactive storytelling and the creative potential of linear, multilinear and non-linear narrative strategies.


 

KLAAS VAN DIJKEN & LUDO HEKMAN

Ludo Hekman (right) studied philosophy and journalism. Meanwhile, he is also game developer and media producer. Klaas van Dijken (left) is a journalist with broad experience in crisis areas. Together they form the Dutch multimedia company Butch & Sundance in Amsterdam and successfully produce web documentaries and games especially made for teenagers. Their documentary games are about political enlightenment, topics such as the hunger crisis in Africa or the war in Afghanistan.

In their presentation, Ludo Hekman and Klaas van Dijken gave an insight into their concrete way of working and address the dramaturgical approaches within a game structure.
