A Workshop by Maurizius Staerkle Drux
Filmmaker Maurizius Staerkle Drux opens the session for his latest film THE ART OF SILENCE in the sound studio. This creative documentary tells the story of the mime Marcel Marceau, who used silence to survive in the French Résistance. The film takes silence as its thematic leitmotif and tries to translate it acoustically. But how do you play silence within a busy soundtrack? And how can sound design motifs be used in a narratively meaningful and emotionally effective way?
Maurizius Staerkle Drux, who always works in the dual function of director and sound designer, reports on the connections between the two professional fields and explores the question of which sounds accompany him during project development, how he thinks acoustically as a director, and the influence sound design has on scenes during the editing process.
